English language Fundamentals.

English language Fundamentals is a series of classes and workshops intended to expand the basic understanding of proper grammar use and build up better reading skills.

The program will prepare students for upcoming college assignments, for standardized exams, and for communicating professionally in the future.

We run workshops that are responsible for developing following skills:

     1. Detailed comprehension of read materials.

     2. Analyzing the structure of an argument.

     3. Building an Argument.

     4. Brainstorming ideas.

Many surveys have shown that more than a third of high school graduates who enroll in college lack reading and writing skills required. This might hurt students both psychologically and financially. While writing and reading skills are keys to getting good grades, after college, good communication skills might open new opportunities and help secure a competitive job.

Based on years of teaching experience, this program will present hands-on style workshops to improve reading and writing skills, paving a way for a smooth transition from high school assignments to college projects.

Reading section on SAT.

Representative of SAT in general, questions in the reading section are elaborate and uncommon. An average student might feel at ease when reading a book or an essay, but will feel lost if asked to critically analyze a material read. High school courses center on quantity, covering a multitude of literature works and styles, but do not teach students how to spot ideas, analyze an argument and draw relevant conclusions.  Since SAT tests comprehension skills that I just listed, students are often not ready to handle the reading comprehension part of the exam.

IvyPrep SAT course integrates many workshops teaching students to think critically. We teach students to actively process reading assignments, to identify important ideas and to use these ideas when answering questions.

Sometimes students need to completely change a way they approach reading section of SAT.  We recognize the challenge that students confront and work on developing reading comprehension skills throughout the course.
