Philosophy
Our Philosophy.
Our Program helps students identify and master each part of the SAT, leading to tangible results and instilling the sense of self-assurance and accomplishment.
IvyPrep affords students a meaningful opportunity to use preparation for SAT as effective means to develop new critical reasoning skills and improve study habits. Such skills, when achieved through a mindful and intense study for the SAT, will promote future success in college studies or in any academic endeavor. We will help students to attain and elevate:
self-confidence
good and highly specialized study habits
ability to approach and analyze questions
organizational skills
Our uniquely qualified instructors create a classroom environment of inquiry, participation and competition, prompting students to get a sense of involvement in, and fulfillment, from learning.
Our additional services, such as home work help, motivational coaching, basics of Math and English, allow students to handle learning challenges and tackle study obstacles in a systematic, in-depth manner. We encourage students not only to study intensively but also to study effectively.
Our Tools for success
Pragmatism: Our success is based on all-around knowledge, grasp and comprehension of the SAT. We know exactly what topics are tested, what question types are typically present and what strategies are most efficient. Our program is founded on problem-solving workshops and each session focuses on coverage of a specific topic or technique. Honesty: We accept the fact that the SAT is a complex and decisive exam. We want to make it the #1 project for our students. Unlike many short term courses, we don’t offer “quick-fix” solutions. Our policy is to evaluate every student individually and present him or her with a comprehensive program reflecting this particular student’s needs and goals. True learning happens over time and requires a lot of practice, effort and focus. This “long-term” learning secures advanced results and has long term benefits.
Systemic approach: IvyPrep students have to work hard. We break down the SAT preparation into the step by step process, covering every topic and question type necessary. All concepts exhibited in class are thoroughly supported by extra materials and home work. For more than a decade, we have been developing best teaching materials and most efficient methods for the SAT. Analytical Problem solving: Most standardized tests are designed to function as an IQ exam. This means that besides the basic knowledge of Math and English, the SAT tests the ability to think analytically. SAT questions are designed with certain logic in mind. We have worked for years to identify specific analytical skills needed to succeed on SAT and have developed a number of workshops to help students learn and master those skills.
Creativity: Our program includes several creativity workshops. These workshops use latest in learning technologies, cutting edge teaching innovations to promote better memorization, deeper focus, and effective text processing. One example is our “creative associations” workshop tailored for learning vocabulary in a spontaneous, naturally flowing and productive way. In this workshop we encourage and direct students to use word associations and visualization techniques to quickly memorize SAT words.
